Dirt Scoops was created in 2006 by Victoria Short - Owens, to help promote local dirt track drivers and local tracks. At the time of the creation, the only online web sites were global racing sites, and there tons of 'Message Boards'. Victoria married Greg Owens in July of 2007, he was a purestock driver then. She noticed that local papers didn't put much emphasis on our small town drivers or tracks, and she wondered what she could do about it.
She created 'Indiana' Dirt Scoops which was a message board/website combination site.
At first, Victoria focused on drivers and home tracks that her family and friends raced at. Victoria set out to try to help get their name out and get them known to more fans, so they could maybe get more sponsors. Her site contained news/results/photos and online interviews of drivers.
Victoria noticed that not many fans realized the cost involved or the time it took to keep these cars/tracks going. They had no idea what went on behind the scenes when the racing wasn't going on.
Victoria started sharing behind the scenes articles/videos/interviews and and a different spin on racing photos with the fans, and they saw insights that they previously had not seen in this area.
They found through her articles/videos that racing doesn't just happen on a Saturday night at the track, it's a 24/7 challenge both financially as well as work put in it.
Since Victoria started the site, now there are tons of 'reality' web sites that are focusing on locals with photos, videos and interviews. Dirt Scoops feels it helped put in a stone in the path and is glad that more people are focusing on our small town drivers and tracks. They need the exposure.
Due to costs, travel limitations, and family obligations, the "New" Dirt Scoops will be only focusing on local tracks in our area and focusing on more on our local drivers with more in-car vids, phone interviews with photos, in-car cams, and behind the scenes videos. We hope you all will enjoy it!
